Healing of Memories for Veterans

Unlock and unload the pain

Separate and distinct from the Counseling ministry at the Casa is a special retreat held exclusively for veterans of war or those recovering from traumatic experiences in the United States military. This extended-weekend experience helps attendees begin to synthesize their story and release the pain of what has been done to them, what they’ve been asked to do to others, and perhaps what they’ve failed to do for themselves or someone else. It is led by Fr. Michael Lapsley, an Anglican priest and victim of political persecution during the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. His worldwide Institute for the Healing of Memories comes to the Casa twice each year, specifically to help American vets.

Walking with St. Francis Retreat: The Journey of a Wounded Warrior

St. Francis of Assisi

St. Francis of Assisi

This retreat for veterans is designed to offer healing insights from one of the most beloved but misunderstood saints. Most people don’t know that St. Francis was a prisoner of war who faced a number of hardships and challenges before having a profound religious experience. In untangling the paradox of his life, we will explore how the call of the warrior intersects with the call of spirituality.

Beyond a Wounded Warrior Retreat

This retreat is designed to offer a follow-up experience for those U.S. veterans who have attended a “St. Francis: Journey of a Wounded Warrior” retreat or “Healing of Memories for Veterans” workshop at the Franciscan Renewal Center.

BEYOND A WOUNDED WARRIOR is an invitation for veterans to go deeper into their spirituality, especially those facing the challenges and difficulties of living with post-traumatic stress, and to learn various spiritual practices and complementary and alternative approaches to help one become centered so as to discover the deeper peace and tranquility that lies within.
