Great Tax Saving News for those 70 ½ and over!

Individuals over 70 1/2 years of age should be aware that they must take a required minimum distribution (RMD) from their IRA each year.  The amount distributed from the IRA is reported as income to the recipient and is included on their tax return along with other taxable income.  The tax code, however, allows individuals to direct all or part of their RMD to a qualified charity, meaning that the amount of that distribution will not result in any taxable income.  We encourage those of you in our community who are over 70 1/2 to consider making a donation directly from your IRA to the Franciscan Renewal Center – this may be used for pledge payments, liturgical gifts, endowment, one-time gifts or other purposes.  This would be a great way to save some tax money and support the Casa.  Be sure to check with your tax advisor to see if this works well for your individual return.

Other ways to give:

Fry’s Community Rewards Program

You can support the Casa when you shop at Fry’s Food Stores. Sign up for Fry’s Community Rewards Program and select the Franciscan Renewal Center as your charity of choice.

Employer Matching Gifts

Does your employer match your charitable contributions? If so, you can double your impact at the Casa. Some companies also match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses to qualified 501 (c) 3 organizations. Before making your contribution, find out if your workplace will match it.  If they do, kindly let us to know, as employer payments may arrive separately and without your name. We want to be sure to thank you! Questions? Contact the Sustainability office.

United Way Workforce Campaign

Does your workplace participate in the United Way? If so, you can make a contribution to the Casa from each paycheck. Simply check “Restricted Contribution” or “Option C” on the United Way pledge form and write in “Franciscan Renewal Center” as the agency of your choice. Thank you!

The Casa is grateful for all gifts of time, talent & treasure. If you would like to find ways to give of your time and talent as a volunteer, click here to explore opportunities.
