Today we are celebrating Memorial Day, a time to stop and remember the men and women who have served our country in the military and remember how so many lost their lives for this country so we could continue to have our freedom and try to live together in harmony and goodwill. Many of us have seen the involvement of our own brothers and/or sisters lost in the war or who have come back injured mentality and/or physically.
These veterans continue to need our support, prayers and encouragement. Our veterans witnessed so much trauma during combat that memories can be with them on a daily basis. Let us be patient and understanding. Our support of these wounded soldiers is of the upmost importance as they try to readjust to our society.
This Sunday evening, PBS will be presenting a tribute to all veterans living and decease at 7 pm on Channel 8. I would strongly encourage you to view this program with your family including your children so they can see what others have done for them to preserve their freedom. Yes, we have lost a lot of young men and women and our prayers go out to each family as they continue to deal with this lost. If we know any of these families, I would like to ask you to continue your support of them.
Many of you are aware of what we are doing here at the Casa for our veterans. We have programs for the Healing of Memories of Spouses and Significant Others; Supporting Children in Military Families and the St. Francis: Journey of a Wounded Warrior retreat this past January.
Finally, I ask you to continue to keep all the men and women who have served our country in your prayers, be they living or deceased.
Peace and good,
Fr. Bill Bried, OFM
