Spiritual Direction
Explore a relationship with God

Spiritual Direction is a time-honored term for a conversation in which one is seeking a companion who is specifically educated and experienced about the ways God may be touching one's life, directly or indirectly.
The term spiritual direction, which is the original, ancient term, sounds like one person giving directions to another, so we prefer to call it "spiritual companionship or tending the holy." Whatever we call it, these are conversations about life in the light of faith.
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR?
A spiritual director/companion is one who is present to the directee through deep listening and personal support. This creates a safe environment where we can openly and prayerfully explore where God's spirit is leading.
WHAT HAPPENS IN SPIRITUAL DIRECTION?
Spiritual direction is really not about being "directed." Rather, it is very much about being encouraged to draw closer to God through conversation, listening and prayer. We talk about what's on your mind...for example:
-
What is happening in your life that separates you from living into deeper meaning?
-
How is God present or absent in your life?
-
How do you know God's direction for your life?
HOW OFTEN DO WE MEET? IS THERE A COST?
Most common is a monthly appointment for one hour at the Franciscan Renewal Center. There is a donation for each session to be determined between the director and the person who comes for direction.
